Hello everybody. Welcome to the Solar Decathlon 2009 and The Black and White House of the Technical University of Madrid, Spain

During our tour of the House, we will explain to you all of our major design components and the patented technologies of The Black & White House.

 

 

 

As you approach The B&W House and enter the line of people waiting to see its interior, we will provide you with a brochure so that you can browse through some information about the House. We’ve included some entertaining games on the last page for your enjoyment. We will also be organizing some surprises depending on the theme of the day, so as to keep you entertained.

While you wait, you will also be able to see the names and photos of our team members, check out the architecture, the research that went into building the House, and so on.

One decathlete will show you the engineering elements of the House, the scale model, and explain the patents and innovative elements we’ve included, such as the moveable roof that pivots on top of a ball-and-socket joint and the facades, which also Follow the sun from East to West (from Madrid to Washington).

 

 

 

 

The next Decathlete will guide you into our House, where you will immediately be able to enjoy the sensation of an innovative multifunctional modern room. We will show you a video of how our House can be transformed, from one scene to another: bedroom, living and dining rooms, and home cinema. This transformation is made possible by using custom-made furniture, combined with a few furniture “classics,” like the Barcelona chair.

 

 

 

The next decathlete will guide you through our house where you can enjoy the sensation of an innovative multifunctional modern room. We will show you a video of how our house will be transformed from one scene to another: bedroom, living, dining and home cinema. This transformation is made possible by us through carefully designed furniture combined with a furniture “classics” like the Barcelona chair.

 

 

 

Our PV panels on the roof, our glass-glass façade panels and our solar thermal panels, are all elements that meet our primary goal: maximum production of energy with minimal losses. We also have an innovative geothermal mass system with several water deposits, which is stored under our platform.

We will show you The B&W House extensions, which can be applied to expand the House, and are a major part of our market viability strategy. You can also play with the scale model of the Electrolinera: a station to charge electric cars, located under the PV roof of The B&W House.

 

 

 

We will explain the modularity and transportability opportunities of our House, using three standard-sized trucks that do not require special transport permissions. The B&W House orients itself to the sun, all over the world, and can be moved by its owners to a new plot easily and several times during its lifetime.

We are open to your feedback, and have provided you with a space to write down your opinions before leaving the House and checking out the other houses competing in the Solar Decathlon 2009.
